BTC Welding Rodeo 2005
Wood Stone Wins People's Choice Award
Wood
Stone Corporation competed May 20th in the 4th
annual Bellingham Technical College's Welding Rodeo (BTC).
Their sculpture entitled, 'Me and Julio' produced the people's
choice award.
After a first place victory at Wood Stone's first welding rodeo last year with their Ski to Sea sculpture, Wood Stone was excited to win the people's choice award. The 2005 welding team consisted of rodeo veterans Bart Ocheltree, Tim Tracy, Bill Terpsma and new comer Jamie Olson.
'Me and Julio' was the brain child of Vice President of Manufacturing, Tim Tracy. Tim has a passion for music and can be found after hours at Wood Stone musically collaborating with fellow employees. The team came together to produce a crowd pleasing piece that embodied personality.
Wood Stone also sponsored a fundraiser by the BTC culinary arts chef's club at the rodeo. Corporate Chef, Frank Milward, came out with Wood Stone equipment and helped BBQ to raise funds.
The welding rodeo hosted hundreds of observers from the community and 84 artists from as far away as Denmark. Over $11,000 was raised from the bidding and selling of the sculptures produced. Proceeds will benefit the welding technology student scholarship fund.
Next year's event has already been set for the third weekend in May; we hope to see you there.
