Wood Stone’s Thanksgiving Feast 2011

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Wood Stone’s Annual Thanksgiving Feast was a resounding success! 9 turkeys, 50 pounds of potatoes, stuffing, countless baskets of bread, the ever-popular green bean casserole, plates of antipasti, bowls up on bowls of amazing salads and the desserts? Un-be-lievable!

Thank you to all who shared their favorite sides and desserts and especially to those who slaved away in our test kitchen for two days to prepare the feast. Thank You to Wood Stone Coporation for continuing traditions like these making this the BEST place to work. And finally, Thank You to all of you who, by your continued support of Wood Stone products, allow us to be here. Happy Holidays!

Wood Stone Staff Picnic 2011

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Let it be known: Wood Stone knows how to throw a great party! This year’s staff picnic was no exception. A “fiesta” theme greeted employees as they entered the Birch Bay State Park location on a (somewhat rare for 2011) gorgeous Saturday afternoon. Tables were brimming with themed t-shirts, sombreros, cactus drink coolers and even chili pepper jewelry! Of course the food was phenomenal…and the games? Not sure what was more fun – watching the kids destroy the gigantic piñata, the team relays or the Hot Tamale eating contest (between our new presidents!).

Thanks to all (Jana Logan, et al) who helped organize another successful (and fun!) Wood Stone event!

Wood Stone’s Presidents turn 60!

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

And what a party it was! Appropriately 60s-themed, the family, friends and staff at Wood Stone came together last Saturday to celebrate this milestone birthday for both Keith and Harry. Entertainment ranged from a live band to a few costumed staff  & family members singing original songs to a song written and performed by Keith for Harry – “The Legend of Harry and the Orphanage.” What a night! Check out some of our favorite photos below:

Thanksgiving at Wood Stone

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

There is much to be thankful for this time of year, and at Wood Stone we figure there’s no better way to celebrate that fact then to provide a veritable feast for our 80+ employees! Here’s the skinny on how this whole thing got started from David Morgan, one of our Engineers:

“A long, long time ago (it was the late fall of 2002 to be exact) I thought, “I wonder what a turkey would taste like cooked in one of our wonderful ovens.” Yes it was a fairly self serving thought but hey… So I went to Chef Frank and volunteered to bring in a bird if he would cook it up. The idea was that we could share it around with the other employees at lunchtime. He suggested our mini feast would be best if it was the last day of work before the Thanksgiving Holiday. A few other folks found out and brought some side dishes and Voila! …it was the first Wood Stone Thanksgiving. The next year I brought another turkey and Wood Stone added one as well and the side dish contributions grew. The third year Wood Stone got 3 turkeys and Dan J. and I each made 15 lbs of mashed potatoes to go with the heavenly gravy and stuffing Chefs Frank and Tim were creating. Well, year by year, our Thanksgiving Lunch has grown until this year on the 24th of November Wood Stone will cooked 12 turkeys and mixed up over 60 lbs of fluffy, mashed, garlic potatoes. The chefs did multiple HUGE pans of their world class stuffing and enough ‘secret recipe’ gravy to float a boat and Oh! did I mention the mountains of Green Bean casseroles, Squash, Yams, Corn, salads, cranberry sauce, pickles? For those with room there were also tables of pies, cheesecakes cookies and other amazing treats!!! Oh!…the humanity!!!! :) Thank you Wood Stone for a wonderful time of sharing.”

One of Wood Stone’s founders, Harry Hegarty, left Bellingham the second week in May on bicycle. His destination – Utah! We have had a great time tracking Harry on his bicycle as he has made his way through Washington and Idaho so far this month in route to his destination. We have captured him on traffic cameras and he has been able to email and send us images of his journey. Best wishes to Harry on his adventure!

Biking to work isn’t a once year event for the employees at Wood Stone. Wood Stone partners year round with Smart Trips, an organization that encourages employees to walk, bike, share a ride, or ride the bus to keep excess cars off the road.

Thanksgiving Tradition at Wood Stone

turkeys

In the Fall of the 2002, a Wood Stone employee, David Morgan, had an excellent thought, ““I wonder what a turkey would taste like cooked in one of our wonderful ovens?” David brought the idea to Wood Stone chef, Frank Milward and volunteered to bring in a turkey if he would cook it up and they could share with the rest of the staff. David suggested that the “mini feast” take place on the work day before the Thanksgiving holiday and that everyone bring a dish to share. A tradition was born!

The following year David brought another turkey and Wood Stone pitched in a turkey as well and the side dish contribution grew. The third year, Wood Stone pitched in three turkeys and Dan Johns and David went to work on making 15lbs of mashed potatoes to go with the heavenly gravy and stuffing that Chefs Frank and Tim created. Well, year by year, the Wood Stone Thanksgiving lunch has grown until this year (2009) Wood Stone cooked up 8 turkeys and 50 lbs of fluffy, mashed, garlic potatoes. The chefs prepared two huge pans of their world class stuffing and enough ‘secret recipe’ gravy to float a boat. In addition, beautiful green bean casseroles, squash, yams, corn, salads, cranberry sauce, pickles and more rounded out the feast. For those with room for more there were pies, cheesecakes, cookies and other amazing treats for dessert.

The Wood Stone staff loves this tradition and hope it lives on for years to come. Thank you Wood Stone!
